Paris, Tenn.–Another crash into the brick wall at the intersection of Wood Street and Tyson Avenue in Paris has resulted in serious injury to the driver, who was extricated from the vehicle by emergency workers and transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Paris Assistant Police Chief Ean Reed said the accident occurred at 10 p.m. Sunday night and is being investigated as a potentially alcohol-related accident. He said the driver was driving an SUV.
The Paris Police, Paris Fire Department and EMS were all called to the scene of the accident. Reed said the driver was first taken to Henry County Medical Center where he was treated and then later transported to Vanderbilt.
The brick wall has been the site of numerous accidents in the past, with drivers crashing into it. The last accident there happened in September of 2022 and was a fatality, caused when a Puryear man suffered a medical emergency and crashed into the wall.
Since that accident, the state had installed a larger yellow warning sign there.
The brick wall has always been repaired and rebuilt. It now is owned by Developer Randy Crowder, who plans to open Oaklawn Restaurant there shortly.
