LOUISVILLE, Ky – For the second consecutive week, the University of Tennessee at Martin track and field programs were in action at the Bellarmine Open in Louisville, Ky. on Friday afternoon.
Loaded with its full squad for the first time this season, the Skyhawks found success in several events. Overall, UT Martin recorded four event titles in the men’s 3k, long jump, triple jump and DMR. In total, the Skyhawks scored points in 17 events.
Notable Performances
- Sophomore Will Cahill won the men’s 3k with a time of 8:18.2 for a new PR. His time finished just two seconds off the program record of 8:16.13 and set a new Bellarmine Open record.
- Junior MJ Jackson set his second program record in as many weeks, this time in the long jump with a mark of 7.54 meters to finish first. His distance beat the previous program record by 0.16 meters. He also won the men’s triple jump with a leap of 13.22 meters.
- The Skyhawk distance medley relay team of Hudson Hall, Hawken Foote, Jack Blyth and Will Cahill won the event with a time of 10:23.88. Meanwhile, the squad of Luke McNair, Victor Kemboi, Cole Davis and George Payne finished second at 10:25.94.
- The women’s DMR team of Rita Eimer, Lilia Alvarez, Lydia Tankersley and Maggie Roy finished runner-up with a time of 12:38.23.
- Sophomore Darius Holland earned a runner-up finish in the men’s long jump with a distance of 7.13 meters.
- The Skyhawks found success in the men’s 60m hurdles as senior Brady Fry (8.45 seconds) clinched a runner-up finish while the freshmen pair of Bryce Sparks (8.58 seconds, second) and Ja’Kobe Ward (8.59 seconds, third) crossed in close succession.
- The men’s 4x400m relay team of Khalid White, John Collin Askew, Maluke Cluver and Brady Fry earned a runner-up finish with a mark of 3:23.16.
- Freshman Kayla Jackson finished third in the women’s triple jump with a distance of 10.67 meters.
- Junior John Collin Askew came in third in the men’s 400m with a time of 49.92 seconds.
The Skyhawks will take a week off before traveling back to the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center for the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic on Friday, Feb. 3.
