Jim R. Young

Mr. Jim R. Young, 87, of Springville, Tennessee, passed away at AHC – Paris Monday, January 2, 2023.

Mr. Young was born Monday, April 22, 1935, in Bardwell, Kentucky, to the late Paul Young and the late Geneva Wilson Young.

Mr. Young was a longtime member and lay leader at Poplar Grove Methodist Church. Jim was a UTM graduate, where he played basketball. His biggest fan was a cheerleader, Marilyn, who he later married.

He married his college sweetheart, Marilyn Hancock Young, on Friday, March 15, 1957, and she preceded him in death Thursday, November 23, 2017.

Jim is survived by his daughter: Jo (Tim) Burrus, of Camden; grandchildren: Blake (Rachel) Burrus, Will (Meredith) Burrus, Alyx (Landon) Prather; J.R. (Brandi Cox), Zeb (Rose Leach), Chance (Gretchen), Little Jim (Taylor), and Woodrow Young (Hannah Gwaltney); great-grandchildren: Paislee Jane, Augustus Anthony, Hattie Jean, Dottie Gray, Ripp Ray, and Annabelle Rose; and his daughter-in-law: Pamela Young of Springville.

Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Young is also preceded in death by his son: Tony Young, who preceded, Monday, August 1, 2022, and by his brother: Wilson Young.

His private family graveside service will be held at Poplar Grove Cemetery with family to officiate and burial will follow. Visitation with the family is scheduled from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

The family requests that memorials be made to: Poplar Grove Methodist Church, 1495 Poplar Grove Rd., Springville, Tennessee, 38256.
