McKenzie, TN – The Wright Brothers made the first powered flight in December 1903. If you are 8 through 17 you can see what it is like to fly on December 10, 2022.
The local Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) chapter will be offering free Young Eagle flights from 10am to 2pm Saturday, December 10, at the Carroll County Airport just south of McKenzie on Highway 22.
The EAA Young Eagles will take off, fly over McKenzie or Huntingdon, and return to the airport for a smooth landing. They will fly a good bit longer than the Wright Brother’s fist flight that only lasted a few seconds. And it took Orville and Wilbur almost a year before they could turn the airplane so they could return to the takeoff point. Flying over McKenzie or Huntingdon will be chosen by the direction of the wind just like the Wright Brothers choose the windy sand dunes of North Carolina. The difference is that now it is for efficiency instead of needing the wind’s help.
Prospective Young Eagles are kids 8 through 17. They should show up anytime between 10am and 2pm at the Carroll County Airport just off Highway 22. They can register on 734.eaachapter.org or on site. A signature from a parent or legal guardian is required. Aviation weather is more than a rain cloud on the screen. So don’t give up just because it shows showers on a screen.
