BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team saw its freshmen class garner a weekly honor for the third consecutive week as forward Sharnecce Currie-Jelks was tabbed Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week after her string of performances in the Hostilo Hoops Community Classic.

The Jackson, Tenn. native had her best week of the young season culminating in being named to the Hostilo Hoops Community Classic all-tournament team after averaging 16.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.0 assists in 26.0 minutes per game. The freshman standout scored in double figures in all three contests while shooting 51.4 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free throw line.

Currie-Jelks opened the tournament with 12 points and five rebounds against Marshall. Then against defending MEAC champion Norfolk State, she chipped in 12 points and five rebounds. Her best game came in the MTE finale as she scored a career-high 21 points while adding six rebounds in the victory over Purdue Fort Wayne.

So far this season, the Skyhawks have claimed all three OVC Freshman of the Week honors as Currie-Jelks joined fellow newcomer Kenley McCarn who won the award twice previously.

UT Martin returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 30 when playing host to former OVC rival Murray State. Tipoff from the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is slated for 6 p.m.
