Stewart County, Tenn.–If you’ve been on social media in Stewart County lately, you know that motorists and bus drivers have been plagued by someone who has been planting sharp objects on the roadway.

Sheriff Frankie Gray said thanks to hard work and surveillance by the Sheriff’s Office, “residents who live on Antioch Road in Bumpus Mills as well as the bus drivers and people who drive it daily can rest a little easier.”

David Cartwright, age 47, of Indian Mound has been arrested and charged with vandalism in the case.

For the last 4-5 weeks the Sheriff’s Office has been investigating nails, screws, barbed wire and other sharp metal objects that were being put on the road several times weekly.

Gray said, “It has taken a lot of time and surveillance but it paid off. Approximately 13 people have reported flats and tire damage from these incidents.”

On Thursday night, November 17th, Investigator Lee Miller arrested David Cartwright. He faces several charges as well as restitution cost.

Gray said, “Investigator Lee Miller did an outstanding job of staying on this case and compiling evidence. Great job Deputies and Investigator Miller for working so hard to protect us an our property.”
