BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – A mere three days after reaching the hallowed mark of 1,000 career kills, University of Tennessee at Martin outside hitter Logan Wallick was rewarded with an Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week nod this week.
A graduate student from Waddell, Ariz., Wallick wins the award for the second time in 2022 and third time in her illustrious career. She has now tied Ashley Doherty (2008-11) for the second-most OVC Offensive Player of the Week awards in a career, trailing only UT Martin Hall of Famer Rachel Ahlers (who won the award five times from 1999-2002).
Wallick averaged 4.17 kills per set on a scalding .345 hitting percentage this week, helping the OVC-leading Skyhawks to a pair of sweeps against Morehead State. In addition to her 25 kills, she also came away with four blocks (one solo, three assists) for 27.5 points over the two matches.
Wallick saved her best performance for last, crushing 17 kills with zero errors in 32 swings for a remarkable .531 hitting percentage on Friday. She wrapped up her day with eight kills in 14 attempts in the third set alone – ending the match with exactly 1,000 career kills. That historic performance came after she registered eight kills during Thursday’s sweep.
On the season, Wallick ranks fourth in the OVC in attack percentage (.293), fourth in kills (3.27 per set) and eighth in points (3.51 per set). Against league opponents, those numbers rise to a .299 hitting percentage, 3.50 kills per set and 3.73 points per set.
The Skyhawks will look to clinch their first OVC regular season championship in two decades this weekend when they wrap up the regular season at Tennessee Tech. UT Martin is currently atop the league standings at 14-2 while Tennessee Tech trails by one match at 13-3. Match times in Cookeville, Tenn. are set for 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12.
