Over the past 15 years, Bethel University’s Renaissance Theatre program has captivated audiences throughout West Tennessee. With musical performances such as Mary Poppins, Hairspray, The Little Mermaid, Smokey Joe’s Cafe’, and Les Miserables; Renaissance Theatre is always up for the challenge of a large-scale musical. This year, they take on The Phantom of the Opera; one of the biggest productions they have put on since their inception in 2006. Renaissance Theatre is thrilled to once again partner with the Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center in Huntingdon, Tennessee for 5 performances!
“We know that there is an expectation and an excitement surrounding a show that is this well known.” says director, Aubrey Doyle. “We plan to meet and exceed expectations of what a college theatre program can do with this classic musical.”
The Phantom of the Opera is one of the most well known musicals of all time. It is the second longest running musical in the West End. Broadway has recently announced a closing date for February of 2023. After Phantom closes, it will have played 13,925 shows during its run on the Broadway stage.
With timeless songs such as “The Phantom of the Opera”, “All I Ask of You”, “Masquerade”, and “Music of the Night”, audiences are sure to fall in love with The Phantom of the Opera all over again. Renaissance Theatre will bring this show to life with elaborate costumes, an incredible set, and a tremendous energy that you can always expect from this theatre troupe.
