Union City, Tenn.–The Jr. Beta Club at Union City Middle School grew by 37 members Wednesday.
Twenty-eight sixth graders, six students from the seventh grade, and three more from the eighth grade were inducted into the noted fraternity in ceremonies witnessed by several members of their families at the school.
New members were recognized by club sponsors Mary Wiggins and Jennifer Bruff, each receiving a certificate and a pin to mark the occasion. Principal Lance Morgan welcomed students and their parents to the ceremony before new club member Christian Weaver led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Vice Principal Cole McAdams also participated in the presentation of certificates and pins before Wiggins led the group in the Junior Beta Pledge and Morgan gave closing comments.
Refreshments and photo-taking followed the ceremony.
There are now 92 members total in the Jr. Beta Club. Teacher Allison Kail is another of the group’s sponsors.
The criteria for new membership is finishing the previous year with a numeric grade point average of 93 or above with a GPA of 90 or above required for advanced classes. Students may have no more than one “C” to qualify.
