Purple People Primed For Biggest Stage

Union City, Tenn.–Before heading out to their biggest competition of the year, the Union City High School Marching Band tuned up with another stellar performance.

The Purple People claimed multiple awards at the Gibson County Marching Invitational over the weekend ahead of a scheduled performance this Friday at the Bands of America Indianapolis Super Regional.

UC is slated to perform at 5:30 (local time) at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The Tornado program, which presented its complete production for the first time at GC Saturday, drew excellent reviews from judges with its performance.

There were 22 bands entered in the competition.

Union City’s lengthy list of awards included:

Preliminary Competition

1st Place Band, Percussion, Guard, and Drum Major

3rd Place Overall

Finals Competition

3rd Place Band

2nd Place Guard

3rd Place Drum Major

4th Place Percussion

“It was a good day for us Saturday,” director Jason Deem said. “It was the first time we marched our complete production, and I believe this performance will springboard the band to our last two competitions.

“The students have worked extremely hard thus far, and as a director, I am excited to see how we finish the season.”

Union City will conclude its competition season at the Division 2 Marching Championships at Stewart’s Creek High School in Smyrna, Nov. 5.
