
Mayfield, Ky.–A couple who was living in a tent without permission are being held in the Graves County Jail on a long list of charges, including trespassing, firearms and drug possession.
On Thursday, October 13, at approximately 1 PM, Deputy Larry Jones and Detective Sergeant Snapper Seaton of the Sheriff’s Office, responded to a trespassing complaint near the Mayfield Creek between KY 58 East and KY 464.
The Sheriff’s Office had received information that subjects we reliving in a tent on property in that area where they did not have permission to be.
Deputies located Sarah Atkins, 29 of Mayfield, and Jacob Atkins, 30 of Mayfield in this area. The Atkins couple had set up a camp site at this location without the permission of the property owner. Deputies discovered that both individuals had active warrants for their arrest. A search of the location resulted in deputies locating methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a firearm.
Both Jacob and Sarah Atkins have felony convictions for prior methamphetamine charges. It was also discovered that a large amount of trash and garbage from their camp site had been dumped in the area where the Atkins were camping.
Both were arrested and transported to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center and were later transferred to a jail facility in another county.
Sarah and Jacob Atkins were both charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – 1st Degree, 2nd Offense, Drug Paraphernalia – Buy/Possess, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Criminal Trespassing and Criminal Littering.
Sarah Atkins was served with two Graves County Circuit Court Bench Warrant for failure to appear and failure to report to jail as ordered.
Jacob Atkins was served with a Graves County Circuit Court Bench Warrant for failure to report to jail as ordered.
