UC Softballers Honored On 8th Grade Night

Union City, Tenn.–Nine Union City Middle School softball players were honored in 8th Grade Night ceremonies Monday following the Lady Tornadoes’ 14-4 loss to Milan.

Among those recognized with their parents were Jenna Kate Cross, Stevee Dugger, Arianna Gear, Kylie Mayes, Emma Mobbs, Annalece Morton, Sh’Nyla Moss, Madi Pate and Allie Vincent.

The visiting Bulldogs used seven UC errors to push across eight early-inning runs in the contest to send the Twister girls to a setback.

Cross had a big three-run triple in the third for the Lady Tornadoes’ lone offensive highlight. Averi Riley had Union City’s only other hit and reached base three times.

UC (5-11) will play its final regular season home game today, hosting Crockett County at 5:30.

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

UC 3, Fulton City 1

The Lady Tornadoes beat Fulton for the second time this season, improving to 5-9 with a four-set victory.

After dropping Game 1, 25-23, UC posted three wins – 25-19, 25-13 and 25-18.

Emma Powell and Lainey Barker served up seven aces, and Addison Carr delivered six for Union City. Powell was also credited with 42 assists and five kills in the contest.

Madie Theobald had a team-high nine kills, with Debrianna Jones posting eight and Lainey Barker finishing with six. Jones also was a factor at the net with five blocks.

The Lady Tornadoes play at Lake County tonight.
