Union City, Tenn.–Union City’s girls’ golf team edged Gleason by two strokes while the Tornado boys played Westview to a tie in prep golf at Persimmon Hills in Sharon on Monday.
The Twister girls shot 98 as a team, while the UC boys came in at 174.
Union City produced the medalists in both matches, with Molly Kizer and Adaline Rice shooting 49s while Nolan Chandler fired a 39.
Other scores for the Tornado girls included Bertie Jenkins with a 50 and Mimi Jenkins with a 51.
For the UC boys, Reese Paschall registered a 43, Logan Vincent came in with a 45, and Landon Hauhe and Jack Harris each shot 47.
Union City winds up regular season play today with a match at Milan.
HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL
Henry Co. 3, UC 0
The Lady Tornadoes played visiting HC tough but dropped close games in a Patriot sweep.
Henry County won 25-23, 25-21 and 28-26.
Brianna McBride, Addison Carr, Madie Theobald, Emma Powell and Lainey Barker were all credited with 20 or more passes for UC. Powell and Theobald were the top set-up players in the assist department.
Gracelyn Sims provided a career-best eight blocks and also had four kills, while Carr had four kills.
Now 4-7 on the season, Union City plays host to Gibson County today.
MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL
South Gibson 20, UC 4
A half-dozen errors led to Union City’s demise and the Lady Tornadoes saw their record dip to 5-8.
Hadley Smith singled in a first-inning run for UC, which trailed just 3-2 after the opening frame.
SG put up 10 tallies in the second and seven more in the third to break open the contest.
Emma Mobbs walked twice and drove in a run for the Lady Twisters, while Sh’Nyla Moss scored two times. Jenna Kate Cross had an RBI and Sophie Palmer singled.
Smith was charged with the pitching loss. Stevee Dugger came on in relief in the second.
UC plays at Gibson County today.
