MARTIN, Tenn. – After playing to a scoreless tie in the first half, the University of Tennessee at Martin soccer team could not overcome the high-volume shooting attack by visiting Conference USA foe Florida Atlantic, falling by a final score of 3-0.

The Skyhawks (1-4-2) held the Owls scoreless for the first 56 minutes of the contest, despite the visitor’s 13 first half shot attempts, before giving up the eventual winning goal in the 57th minute and a pair of late insurance goals in the final five minutes of action.

UT Martin was outshot in the contest 25-3 by FAU with the Skyhawks lone shot attempts coming from two players as Izzy Patterson paced the squad with two shots on goal while Nyeemah Prescod-Beckles also tallied an attempt late in the second half.

Florida Atlantic (3-3-2) posted its fourth shutout of the season behind a strong midfield unit which controlled much of the possession. Bri Austin led the Owls with four points on the evening as she scored a goal in the 85th minute and tallied assists on the team’s other two goals by Sofia Voldby (57th minute) and Gi Krstec (87th minute).

Poppy Bastock tallied four saves on the evening – including three in the first half – before allowing the three second half goals. On the flip side, Blythe Braun recorded her third shutout in as many starts for FAU while notching two saves.

UT Martin will close out the non-conference portion of its 2022 schedule on Sunday, Sept. 18 when playing host to Alabama A&M. Prior to the 1 p.m. start, the Skyhawks will hold their Senior Day festivities.
