BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the second time in his career, University of Tennessee at Martin linebacker John H. Ford II has been named Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week after a strong performance against No. 5 Missouri State.
A native of Nashville, Tenn., Ford tallied his second double-digit tackle performance of the season against the Bears with 12 tackles while adding 2.0 tackles for loss – including a four-yard sack – along with a pass breakup. The contest marked the fifth time that Ford has eclipsed double figures in the tackle column.
The OVC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year leads the league in each of main defensive categories with 25 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks. His two pass breakups also rank in the league’s top-10.
Ford and the Skyhawks will head west for their next contest with a matchup against Boise State scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CST on FS1.
