Puryear, Tenn.–Thursday night’s busy meeting of the Henry County Schools board was opened with County Clerk Donna Craig swearing in Board Members Rusty Wiles of District II and Russ Orr of District I. The meeting was hosted by Harrelson School in Puryear and Principal Lisa Wyatt, teachers, students and the Puryear Lions Club made presentations.

The Puryear Lions Club coordinates with local businesses to provide each Harrelson teacher with an emergency bucket for each classroom. Kathy Visser brought buckets in to show the board, noting they hold flash lights, water, and other emergency supplies to use in a crisis.

Ms. Elkins’ class learned how to make healthy drinks which they served to board members.

Agriculture academic standards were put in practice as Mr. Hinson’s class used common shop tools to cut and design coasters. Each board member was given a coaster.

Christy Witherspoon and Kid’s Corner students told the board members about the Utrust Appreciation day program. With this month being Bus Driver Appreciation, the students talked about learning to be grateful and thankful for their school family and how it made them feel happy to show appreciation. Students made posters and goodie bags for bus drivers and cheered them as the drive in the parking lot.
