Deadhorse, Alaska–A team of Stewart County men with training in special ops and search and rescue operations are on the way to Alaska to join the search for Steve Keel of Dover.

Keel went missing on a hunting trip and was last seen Saturday, August 27. He is 61. He and a friend were camping in a remote area in northern Alaska. They reportedly were storing the caribou they shot a quarter-mile away and Keel left the campsite to cut some meat and never returned.

His wife, Liz, said “a team of ex military with special ops and search and rescue experience that are from our community are preparing to fly to Alaska as we speak so the search goes on. I am amazed but so encouraged that there’s more people that will be right there looking in everyplace possible to find Steve.”

She said, “The events that are taking place are difficult but amazing to see a community come together in so many ways to help one of their own. As I say this, we are asking for financial help for these men to help them on this trip. Whatever you can give, will be greatly appreciated.”

A friend, Erica Dowdy posted a photo of the four men on the plane on the way to Alaska on Facebook and said, “These four men can use all of the prayers, well wishes, and positive vibes they can get. I hope and pray that they are able to find Steve and bring him home and for their safe return Erica Dowdy.”

Anyone wanting to donate to the search can contact Liz Keel through her Facebook page.
