Gary W. Grooms, 73, of Puryear, Tennessee, died Saturday, August 27, 2022, at his residence.

Gary was born Tuesday, October 19, 1948, in the Whitlock community of Paris, to the late James H. Grooms and the late Bryna Mae Stevens Grooms. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister: Scarlett Grooms.

He retired after 29 years as a heavy equipment operator for K.T. Clay in Gleason, Tennessee, and was also a longtime farmer.  He loved mallard ducks and being on the farm around his cows.  He also enjoyed being surrounded by his family.

He was married Saturday, December 17, 1994, to Martha A. Green Grooms, who survives, of Paris.

Along with his wife, he is also survived by one daughter: Debra (Chad) Brewer, of Paris, Tennessee; three sons: Scott (Mary) Grooms, of Puryear, Tennessee, Ricky (Alisha Rogers) Paschall, of Paris, and Steve (Teresa) Paschall, of Paris; two sisters: Teri (Ricky) Dowdy, of Big Sandy, Tennessee, and Zetra (Jerry) Crabb, of Jackson, Tennessee; one brother: Tony (Mary Nell) Grooms, of Paris; 10 grandchildren: Jordan (Jac) Conger, Megan (Cody) Belvin, Ginny Grooms, Paige (Zach) Golson, Jerod Grooms, Matt Paschall, Kelsey (Austin) Watkins, Makenzi Brewer, Courtney (Noah Heath) Paschall, and Dalton (Leah Sutton) Paschall; and 10 great-grandchildren: Payton, Drew, Arlo, Willa June, Langston, Tucker, Wyatt, Cooper, Charlie, and Booth.

Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, Tennessee, 38242.  Visitation will be Monday, August 29, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home with Jamie Smith officiating.

Ricky Dowdy, Max Middleton, Barney Valentine, Tony Nance, Jamie Smith, and David Eldridge will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary Pallbearers will be John Smith, Steve Smith, Tyler Smith, and David Everett.

Burial will follow in Foundry Hill Baptist Cemetery in Puryear, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
