
Paris, Tenn.–Henry County Sheriff’s deputies and agents with the 24th Judicial Drug Task Force seized 15 pounds of marijuana from a vehicle during a traffic stop in Paris over the weekend.
Sheriff Josh Frey said on Saturday, August 20, agents and officers conducted a traffic stop on Memorial Drive in Paris of a vehicle being driven by Matthew McWherter.
During the traffic stop officers discovered packages inside the vehicle that were believed to contain illegal narcotics.
Frey said McWherter and others have been under investigation for distributing large amounts of narcotics in the area.
Henry County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Jagr was called to the scene and he did alert to the odor of narcotics on the packages.
Approximately fifteen pounds of marijuana were seized from the packages. McWherter was charged with possession of schedule VI controlled substance with intent to deliver. This investigation is ongoing with other charges pending.
In a separate incident on Friday, a Drug Task Force Officer stopped a vehicle on HWY 79 North and a search was conducted. Agents did locate a piece of luggage in the trunk of the car that contained 32 individual bags of high grade marijuana and digital scales. The approximate weight was three pounds. It was determined that the marijuana was being delivered to Jackson Tennessee.
Arrested was Jun’Tavious Harris of Jackson Tennessee. Harris was charged with possession of a schedule VI controlled substance with intent to sell or deliver.
