UCHS Volleyball Wins Opener; Lady Tornado Golfers Continue Strong Start

Match No. 1 of the 2022 volleyball season was a convincing victory for Union City.

The Lady Tornadoes swept visiting West Carroll 3-0 Monday night, winning 25-10, 25-19 and 25-10.

Sadie Crawford had a team-high 11 kills, with Addison Carr accounting for 10. Emma Powell registered eight kills, and Debrionna Jones was good for seven blocks. Carr served up five consecutive aces to close out the match for UC.

The Twisters also took the jayvee match, winning 25-9 and 25-13.

Rosa Lopez shined early for Union City with 20 consecutive serves – six of which were aces. Brianna McBride had four kills, and Brittany Murphy finished with two.

 UC next plays at Gibson County Tuesday.

 

HIGH SCHOOL GOLF

Tornado boys fall

Union City’s boys fell three strokes short of besting Milan, dropping a close match (179-182) to the Bulldogs at Poplar Meadows Country Club.

Nolan Chandler was UC’s medalist for the third straight outing, shooting a 42. Reese Paschall and Landon Hauhe each finished with a 46, and Logan Vincent came in with a 48. 

Other scores for the Tornadoes included Jack Harris (47), Hayden Searcy (50), Carter Pruitt (54), Maddox Dunn (56), Landon McAdams (59) and Jackson Chism (60).

Mimi Jenkins continued her strong early play for the Lady Tornadoes, firing a top score of 44. Molly Kizer was one shot back of her teammate. Milan had just one player, Emily Foren, who registered a 63.

Bertie Jenkins and Adaline Rice both shot 47 for UC, while Alli Kate Frilling finished with a 50.

The Tornado teams are slated to play at Trenton today.

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Crockett Co. 13, UC 0

The Lady Tornadoes failed to collect a hit in seeing the early-season record dip to 1-1.

Union City had two baserunners in the contest – Averi Riley and Annalece Morton – both of whom walked.

Hadley Smith was charged with the pitching loss.

UC is scheduled to host Gibson County today at 5:30 p.m.
