Paris, Tenn.–The beer permit for the Dollar General Store on East Wood St. in Paris was suspended for one year following a violation hearing at Thursday night’s meeting of the Paris Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
It was noted during the meeting that that particular Dollar General Store had violated beer regulations for the third time.
Assistant Paris Police Chief Ean Reed said the city has never had a local store have more than two offenses. City officials also indicated this marks the first time the city of Paris has ever had a suspension of beer sales for an entire year.
Paris Police Lt. Derrek Colley testified that an undercover 20-year-old had bought beer at the store illegally.
District Manager Gayle Blackburn was at the hearing and said the clerk was fired immediately after store operators found out about the violation.
A motion by Board Member James Smith to revoke the permit for two years died for lack of second.
Another motion by James Matthew Wyatt to revoke the permit for one year was approved with one consenting vote from Board Chair Ricky Searcy who indicated his feeling that one year was too long.
