Union City, Tenn.–An Obion County Sheriff’s sargent and his K9 are credited with saving someone’s life earlier this week.
The team of Sgt. Tim Wright and K9 Sophia were requested by the Obion Police Department to track a man who was threatening suicide around 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 20.
Upon arrival, Sophia was scented on a pair of boots owned by the subject and took the scent and began to track across a long bridge on an abandoned highway.
Sophia followed the scent for some two miles, at which point she alerted to a turn which led off the roadway into a swamp. The area was extremely thick with vegetation and had standing water and mud.
According to “Find-M Friends”, Deputies had reason to believe that the subject was armed with a handgun.
At this point, Sophia had become overheated due to the extreme heat. Sgt. Wright said, “At that point I stopped the track for her safety and to render aid to her. The fire department was called to bring water and a unit was called to place her inside to cool her off.”
Deputies continued to search and discovered the subject alive and prevented the opportunity for the subject to commit suicide.
Sophia was scented at 10 p.m. and the subject was located at 10:55 p.m.
