Paris, Tenn.–The Historic Atkins-Porter Neighborhood Association invites the public to an ice cream social fundraiser at the Neighborhood Botanical Garden, Saturday, July 16 from 4 -6 pm.
“We are so proud of our community’s first botanical garden at 311 Jackson Street,” according to Atkins-Porter Neighborhood Association President Rachel Terrell. “Now that so many of the plants are in full bloom, we wanted to invite folks to visit, have some delicious ice cream, enjoy a family photo opportunity and donate to the cause.” With a limited number of servings, visitors are encouraged to come early for ice cream.
“There have been lots of people in the garden this summer for educational programs, meetings or to just hang out with their friends. We are celebrating taking the next step, which included expanded plantings and new mulch,” Terrell said. “These additions have transformed a pretty spot into a gorgeous garden.”
The Association sponsored two types of educational programming this summer, “Story Hour” with W.G. Rhea Children’s Librarian Kayla Nation and “Tree Talk” with Ranger Joan Howe of the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge.
“We’ve been thrilled with the number of families who have supported these events, and we look forward to visiting with members of the community this Saturday,” she said.
