Carroll County Time Capsule To Be Opened

carroll-county-cth

On Friday, July 15, 2022, the time capsule buried as part of the Carroll County Sesquicentennial will be opened.  The time capsule was buried fifty years ago.

“With great excitement, we’ll join together on July 15, 2022, to open the sesquicentennial time capsule, which was buried on the lawn of the Carroll County Court House on July 28, 1972, under the leadership of the Carroll County Historical Society.   As both Huntingdon and Carroll County celebrate their Bicentennial, we hope you will join us for this moment, planned fifty years ago by a special group of Carroll Countians, as we celebrate our history,” said Joseph Butler, Carroll County Mayor.

This project is taking the efforts of the County Mayor’s office, Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Town of Huntingdon, Wilbert Vault Company, Carroll County Civic Center, and the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.

The time capsule is a burial vault estimated to weigh 3,500 pounds empty.  The vault will be opened at approximately 10:15 a.m. on July 15, 2022, at the exhibit building at the Carroll County Civic Center.  The contents will be removed, announced, and categorized.  Plans will be made to exhibit the items after the vault is open.  This may take two to three weeks to plan, since we do not know the contents of the vault or the exact conditions of items in the vault.

“We caution everyone to realize that the integrity of the vault may have been compromised during the last fifty years, so the contents may be in poor condition,” said Brad Hurley, President of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.  The public is invited to attend the activities at the exhibit building.
