Union City, Tenn.–Science came to life for Union City Middle School fifth graders at the conclusion of the 2021-22 school year.
Twenty eggs donated by Rylan Bondurant’s parents — Dr. Dylan and Courtney Bondurant – were incubated for the last three weeks of Rhonda Clendenin’s classes as students watched and waited for the hatching process.
Students had earlier completed an animal adaptation unit in their science studies and could hardly contain their excitement when 14 chicks were hatched.
The chicks are now making their home at the Bondurant family farm.
“They were so excited when the hatching began,” Clendenin said. “It brought our science book to life and was a great experience for everyone.
“I think maybe some of our students even went home and asked their parents if they could have chickens afterward. I appreciate that the Bondurant family shared this experience with us.”
