Lawrence “Larry” Strickland

Mr. Lawrence “Larry” Strickland, 73, of Hazel, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Murray Calloway Hospital.

Larry was born Tuesday, July 13, 1948, Paris, Tennessee, to L.T. Strickland and Dollie Teague Strickland, who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by three  brothers, Jerry, Billy, and Robert Strickland and one sister Joyce Strickland Johnson.

Larry was the oldest of twelve children. At an early age, it was obvious he was gifted with his hands. He was a natural carpenter, mechanic, and musician. He was well known in the area as a professional floral designer and Blues bass player. As a boy, he delivered for Frye Drug Store, he also worked at the Paris Landing Inn, Jack Jones Florist (among other florists), TVA, and retired from the Tennessee Technology Center in Paris.

He was a member of Free In The Spirit Church of God, where he left the Blues behind and transitioned to Gospel music and was the head Deacon. Later he was a Deacon and member of Calvary Temple Pentecostal Church, where he played the drums. Larry was a people person who was a loyal and loving family man, devoted husband, father, brother and provider.

Larry is survived by his wife Barbara “Barb” Cole Strickland, who he married Saturday, October 27, 2007. He is also survived by four daughters: Brittany Strickland,  of Houston, Kayla Strickland, of Nashville, Shelia Strickland, of Santor, North Carolina, Ty-Erica Tharpe, of Wisconsin; five sons: Larson Strickland, of Hazel, Corey Strickland, of Dallas, Greg Strickland, of Seattle, Lawrence Strickland, Jr., of Idaho, Larry Teague, of Paris, and Timmy Teague, of Paris; three sisters: Shirley Strickland (Steve) Spruill, of Clarksville, Brenda Strickland Flagg, of Indiana, Irene Strickland (Timothy) Walden, of Clarksville; four brothers: Thomas Strickland, of Paris, Eddie (Rahima) Strickland, of Clarksville, Willie Strickland, of Paris, Darrell Strickland, of Wisconsin. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members

His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m.. Thursday, June 16, 2022 at McEvoy Funeral Home, 507 W. Washington St., Paris, Tennessee, 38242, with Bro. Tom Clendenen officiating.

Burial will follow the service in Greenwood Cemetery.
