TVA Asks Consumers For Voluntary Reduction In Power Use

tva-headquarters

Paris, TNThe expected extreme temperatures for this week has caused TVA to ask all electric power consumers to reduce use of electricity between 2:00-5:00 pm today, Monday, June 13, 2022. The voluntary reduction is needed to help ensure a continued supply of power to essential services throughout the Tennessee Valley.

In order to maintain power across the valley, TVA is using all available resources including the purchase of available power from neighboring utilities. TVA and Paris BPU are working around the clock to make power available to all consumers. TVA and Paris BPU are both participating in this load reduction by adjusting thermostats, reducing lighting, and taking other measures to reduce electricity consumption in all facilities.

All electric power consumers– residential, commercial, and industrial- are being asked to cooperate in reducing power usage during this critical time.  From 2:00–5:00 pm consumers should:

  • Postpone using electric appliances such as dishwashers, dryers, and cooking equipment
  • Reduce the use of air conditioning by raising thermostats one to two degrees above normal levels
  • Turn off nonessential lights, appliances, and other electrical equipment

The request for voluntary reduction is likely to be made each day this week through Thursday. Paris BPU will communicate daily regarding any load reduction request. TVA and Paris BPU thanks local consumers in advance for your cooperation during this extreme weather event.

“TVA is focused on providing reliable power. Load reduction requests are part of their overall strategy to meet power demand even during times of high temperatures” said Terry Wimberley President/CEO of Paris BPU.
