Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol conducted a Mock Search and Rescue Training Mission over the weekend.
Five aircraft and members of the local Civil Air Patrol Unit conducted a mock search and rescue mission last weekend at the Henry County Airport at Cottage Grove.
Officials brought in a mobile communications unit to assist with the program. At this point First Lieutenant Louis Santos has seen the squad grow to 11 cadets, girls and boys, age 13-18. Some of those cadets will be traveling to Memphis to take part in and ride in a C-17 Globemaster operated by the 155th unit of the Air National Guard.
The oldest member of the unit is Joe Orachnet of Cottage Grove who has been in Civil Air Patrol since leaving the military in 1945. He’s now 93 years of age and enjoys photography as a hobby. Cadets of the local squadron include members from Murray, Gleason, Camden, Dresden as well as Henry County.
The squad meets on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays from 9-2 at the Henry County Airport. Individuals who would be interested in becoming a part of the Civil Air Patrol are invited to attend.
