
David “Pete” Capps, a veteran of the Vietnam War and longtime resident of Paris, Tenn, passed away on May 12, 2022. Pete, as he was known to everyone was born July 18, 1947. Pete enlisted in the U.S. Army as a private, first-class, The U.S. Army recognized Pete for his honorable service with a Vietnam Combat Metal. Pete didn’t speak much about combat or his time in the Army, but he proudly honored all military branches and fellow soldiers and proudly flew the American flag.
After the war, Pete returned home and married his fiancé Mary Delois Smith on 06/15/1968, Together, side by side for 54 years. Over the years Pete played a huge role in the lives of his wife’s sisters and brothers. He was far more than a brother-in-law. He was a mentor, a brother, a dad and a best friend. His imprint on their lives will be forever in their hearts. Pete was truly a man of wisdom, a one of a kind, a cut from a different cloth some might say. Pete was very talented in many ways. One of his most enjoyable hobbies was playing his guitar. If you closed your eyes and listened, you would think you were listing to his idol “Chet Atkins”. Pete admired and loved our former president, Donald Trump. A man truly for the people as he would say. He loved all things of nature, especially watching birds, planting and growing flowers. Pete will truly be missed by all family and many friends.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence “Buck” Capps, Laura Laverne Pace Capps, grandson Christopher Capps, sister Betty Haddock and brother Charles Capps. He’s survived by his wife Mary Delois Capps, son’s Chris Capps and Eric Capps. Nine grandchildren Dustin, Adam, TJ, Kiser, Neveah, Abigail, Sawyer, Magen, and Gracie Capps, as well as two great grandchildren Layla and Landon Capps. One brother Johnny “Beetle” Capps
There will be a memorial celebrating his life sometime within the month of July at his residence.
