Union City, Tenn.–Senior Night was a big night for Union City soccer.

The Tornadoes erupted for a season-high 10 goals in a 10-1 rout of visiting Ripley at War Memorial Stadium Monday.

Five of the six UCHS seniors honored in pregame ceremonies scored goals, led by Chandler Adams’ hat trick. Logan Elmore scored twice, while Juan Lopez, Riley Caudill and Brayden Hailey also found the net as the Tornadoes improved to 6-4-1 heading into today’s regular-season finale at South Fulton.

The constant aggressor in the match, Union City, had 20 shots on goal.

Miguel Sanchez had a goal and three assists, while teammate Marcos Landeros was also credited with three assists. Ka’Jaylon Bell had four saves in goal for the Purple and Gold.

Hogan Kern was also among the seniors honored beforehand.

Today’s match at SF is slated to begin at 5 p.m.

HIGH SCHOOL TRACK

Rogers 3rd in pentathlon qualifier

Sophomore Ada Rogers – in just her second-ever pentathlon competition – placed third among 11 competitors in the Class A-AA state qualifier at Houston High School in Memphis.

Rogers will now play the waiting game to see if she gains one of six wild-card berths awarded to the state competition that is slated for Austin Peay State University on May 18. The top two finishers in the East, Middle and West qualifiers receive automatic bids, with the remaining spots going to the next-best scores in those sectionals.

UC head coach Wade Maddox says he expects to hear of Rogers’ fate in the next few days.

“I think she has a legitimate shot,” Maddox said. “For someone in just her second competition, I thought she was remarkable.”

Lady Tornado senior Chanyah Lipford – also in her second meet – placed sixth in the field.

Rogers finished second in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 800-meter run. She was listed in the middle of the pack in the long jump, shot put and high jump. She did increase her high jump mark by 10 inches from her first time out, according to Maddox.
