Union City, Tenn.–Union City Middle School baseball players Ben Howell, Hayden Toon and Kirben Thompson were named to the all-conference team at the conclusion of the Northwest Middle School Athletic Association Tournament Friday night.
Howell posted a team-high .441 batting average and had an on-base percentage of .486. As a left-handed pitcher, he recorded two of the Tornadoes’ four wins and struck out 34 opposing hitters.
Toon hit. 382 with 13 hits and 12 runs scored. His on-base average was .462.
Thompson matched Howell for the team-high with 15 hits on his way to a .375 batting average. He scored 12 runs to tie Toon for the club-best and had an on-base percentage of .432.
UC will face host Ponies
to open 12AA baseball
Union City will meet Huntingdon in the opening round of the District 12AA Baseball Tournament Thursday at 6 p.m.
The Mustangs will host the entire double-elimination event, with the top two finishers advancing to the regional tourney.
UC and Huntingdon will be the fourth and fifth seeds, respectively, and split their two regular-season meetings.
The winner will play regular-season champion Milan at 7 p.m. Friday. The loser will play the Gibson County-Westview loser in an elimination game Saturday at 1 p.m.
