Union City, Tenn.–The Union City girls’ tennis team completed a perfect run through the district to celebrate Senior Day in style.

After honoring seniors Annie Wade and Gracyn Callicott, the Lady Tornadoes blitzed Huntingdon 7-0 Thursday afternoon.

UC was unbeaten and largely untested in its 13A matches this season and improved its overall mark against a demanding schedule to 9-10.

The Twister girls never gave up more than two games in any set vs. the Fillies, with Molly Kizer recording a shutout in her No. 4 singles match. Callicott and Wade both won easily in singles and doubles play as Union City was victorious in all 12 matches played.

Head coach Tom Sisco honored senior boys Kobe Terrell and Alex Del Castillo before their matches in what turned out to be a 7-0 setback vs. the Mustangs.

Terrell battled Jeb Atkinson to the end before dropping his singles match 8-5, while Del Castillo and doubles partner Charlton Wisener went the distance before falling 8-6 against Seth Ricketts and Aden Hutcherson.

UC is now 7-8 on the boys’ side.

Next up for both the Tornado girls’ and boys’ teams is individual district play that begins Monday at Bethel University.

Emmaline Qualls, Sophie Theobald and Lainey Barker all went 2-for-4 for the victors. Theobald had a triple, as did teammate Kennedy Robinson. Marlee Theobald smacked a double and scored twice.

Anna Cheatham tossed a complete-game two-hitter with four strikeouts to pick up her fifth pitching win in eight decisions.
