Marjorie Ann Simpson LaFon

Marjorie Ann Simpson LaFon, 97, of Cottage Grove, Tennessee, died at her residence Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

She was born Sunday, August 10, 1924, in Henry County, Tennessee, to Laverne Simpson and Grace Shell Simpson, who both preceded her in death.

Marjorie formerly worked as a teacher’s aide at Cottage Grove School. She was a faithful and active member of Cottage Grove Baptist Church for many years. Marjorie enjoyed sewing, reading, and flower gardening.

She married James R. LaFon Saturday, September 12, 1942. He preceded her in death in 2000 and their son Michael LaFon preceded her in death in 2003.

She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter Diane Owens, of Paris, Tennessee, a son Steven (Tammy) LaFon, of McKenzie, Tennessee, five grandchildren: Wanda Gardner, Angela Owen, Anna Parker, Jamie Conger, and Jennifer Johnson.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to caregivers Tammy Harper, April Grooms, Laurel Painter and Angela Phifer.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022, at McEvoy Funeral Home. Mike Waddey, former pastor of Cottage Grove Baptist Church, is officiating.

Burial will be at Walker Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Powell, Howard Powell, David Powell, Josh Warbritton, Troy Bruce, Mike Hutson, and honorary pallbearers are Ray Harding and Mack Shell
