The Union City Middle School girls’ basketball team celebrated their 2021-22 season with an outing that included ax throwing at the Angry Axe in Martin and plenty of good food.
Head coach Chris Palmer handed out several individual accolades at the end of the gathering.
They included:

The Lady Tornadoes finished their season with a 15-8 mark.

Peabody 11, UC 1
Trenton cooled off the Tornadoes, who’d won five of six before Friday’s mercy-rule setback.
Ben Kail had UC’s lone hit, a leadoff single in the fifth. The Twisters’ lone run came in the second inning when Barrett Cox walked and eventually scored on a Tide error.
Peabody scored three times in the second and broke open the contest with an eight-run third frame.
Nolan Chandler started and pitched into the third. Kase Ross followed Chandler to the mound before Landon Hauhe fanned four of the five batters he faced to close things out for Union City.
The Tornadoes (10-13) play host to Gibson County Tuesday to begin their final District 12-AA series of the season.

UC girls drop 3 matches
The Lady Tornadoes fell to the host team, Hopkinsville and Bowling Green in the McCracken County Invitational over the weekend.
UC is now 7-9 heading into the final week of regular-season play, with home matches against Huntingdon (Tuesday), Paducah Tilghman (Wednesday), and Westview (Thursday) on the schedule.
The doubles duo of Molly Kizer and Shelby Bondurant scratched out Union City’s lone win vs. MC.
Against Hopkinsville, Davey Frankum and Mimi Jenkins won in singles, with sisters Davey and Dani Frankum teaming to win in doubles. Jamie Becton and Lexi Petty did likewise.
Petty claimed a marathon win in singles play against Bowling Green, taking a third-set tie-breaker 12-10. She then teamed with Becton to claim a doubles triumph.
The Lady Tornadoes’ top two seeds, Annie Wade and Gracyn Callicott, did not play in the event.
