Union City, Tenn.–Obion County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Kent Treece and Captain Scott Watkins visited two local factories that are a part of the sheriff office’s Work Release Program on Tuesday.
Excel Boats and Williams Sausage work with the sheriff’s office on giving incarcerated individuals the opportunity to work a full time job while serving out their sentences.
The Work Release program was started in 2019 under Sheriff Karl Jackson, and it has proven to be a beneficial program for not only the inmates but for Obion County and the local industries as well. This program allows for non-violent inmates to receive a fair wage by working full time at a local factory to pay court fines, child support, and any civil judgements.
Jackson said, “We are proud of the progress this new program has made since its start, and we look forward to expanding the Work Release program by adding more inmates to the work force.”
