BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After posting a blistering weekend at the plate, University of Tennessee at Martin junior shortstop Shyanne Sheffield has been named Ohio Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week after helping the Skyhawks to a series sweep of Eastern Illinois.
A native of Tullahoma, Tenn., Sheffield posted a .700 batting average – going 7-for-10 at the dish – in three games while scoring three runs, tallying two doubles, one home run and 10 RBIs. Along with her impressive batting average, she posted a 1.200 slugging percentage and an impeccable 1.900 OPS in the series.
Sheffield tallied season-highs in hits (three) and RBIs (five) over the weekend while recording multiple base hits and RBIs in every game. In the series opener she went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs before closing out the doubleheader by going 3-for-4 with two singles, a double and three RBIs on Friday afternoon. In Saturday’s series finale, she wrapped up a sweep of Eastern Illinois by going 2-for-3 with another double and a pair of RBIs. Along with her damage at the plate, she tallied a 1.000 fielding percentage with six putouts and three assists.
