Union City, Tenn.–Good grades plus good behavior provided a good time for a large group of deserving Union City Middle School football players.

Forty Tornado gridders from the sixth and seventh-grade classes who met standards in the classroom and with exemplary actions and conduct were recently rewarded with an afternoon at Southlane Bowling.

The group enjoyed unlimited bowling, video and table games and multiple snacks.

“We have expectations and standards in our program, and they don’t stop on the field and in the weight room,” UCMS head coach Cole Clanton said. “It’s important for us to acknowledge our kids when they meet the criteria we’ve set for those who choose to participate in our program.

“Being a good student and being respectful of teachers and others will always be a part of being a Golden Tornado football player.”

Clanton will begin spring practice soon and anticipates having more than 80 players with the addition of next year’s sixth-grade class to his program.
