Paris, Tenn.–The city of Paris retail sales tax revenue slightly dropped in the month of January compared to last January by .64 percent, but the city is still ahead fiscal year-to-date by 7.95 percent.
In the City Finance Director’s report at Thursday’s Paris City Commission meeting, it was reported that general fund revenues exceeded expenditures for February and the city is also ahead fiscal year-to-date.
On large out of the ordinary expense during the month was the purchase of a track loader and utility compactor for $327,000. The track loader was purchased for the landfill for $299,000 and the city will be reimbursed half of that over the next five years from the county.
February was the last month to pay 2021 property taxes without penalty or interest. As usual, they collected the majority of payments during the month and at month’s end the city collected its typical average of 91 percent of the total amount billed for current property taxes.
Delinquent 2021 tax notices will be mailed in April. The 2020 delinquent taxes were turned over to Chancery Court in March and are no longer payable to the City business office.
The city issued eight business licenses in February:
New Business (5): The Point BBQ, Custom Renovation & Repair, Paris Pro Services
LLC, The Flower Station, Southern Sass Bo
New Location (1): Phases to Freedom Thrift Store
Add’l Location (2): Paris Loft Wine & Spirits, Sapphire Companies LLC (Walmart
