CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin track and field program took a small squad to compete at the Flames Invitational hosted by Lee University but produced big results with six individuals recording new personal-bests in the meet.

Competing for the third time during the outdoor season, the Skyhawks produced strong performances in both the men’s and women’s 5k along with the men’s 10k in the three-day event.

While UT Martin competed on Friday, six different players used their season progression to post the best times of their respective careers. Beginning in the men’s 5k – three different Skyhawks earned PRs – led a strong show by freshman Will Cahill. The rookie distance runner posted a time of 14:30.85 to lead the team while the duo of Cole Davis (14:52.4) and George Payne (14:53.6) finished within seconds of each other while also staking their claim to personal-best performances.

The results were similar on the women’s side as newcomers Lilia Alvarez and Victoria Holliday led the way for the Skyhawks in the 5k event. Alvarez has continued her strong spring campaign by posting a collegiate PR of 18:40.04 while Holliday has also shown a lot of promise in her freshman campaign after notching a PR time of 18:58.41 seconds.

Taking it up another notch in distance was senior Will Oglesby in the grueling 10k. Oglesby secured a new PR in the event with a time of 31:36.62

UT Martin now sits at the midway point of the outdoor season with an appearance at the Rhodes 7-Way Meet on Friday, Apr. 15 on the horizon.
