Dresden, Tenn.–Weakley County Schools may be on spring break, but they are also in a month focused on spotlighting the arts education.
In Weakley County that includes Rebecca Steele, the music teacher for middle school. This year, her students have all learned music on the bucket drums. Currently, they are working on learning ukulele, and, after spring (and perhaps a few more classes outside!), will work on playing chords along to some popular songs like Thunder by Imagine Dragons and Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi.
Steele is at a different school each day, and most afternoons after school, heads to Westview to work with the band. She has a clarinet and saxophone quartet that she directs. The clarinets were established last year, and this is the saxes first year.
Sometimes, she plays photographer including a shot here she grabbed of her colleagues figuring out if they needed to change a pitch within the chord.
Wherever she is, this music teacher is prepared to share her enthusiasm for a subject that not only soothes the soul, but, research shows increases memory, strategy skills, and overall learning abilities.
