Union City, Tenn.–The Union City Police Department is warning local businesses to be on the lookout for a scam.
On Monday, March 21, UCPD was contacted by a local business to report an attempted scam. The employee advised a scammer posing as a Union City Police Officer called the business asking questions about the store deposit. The scammer advised that counterfeit money had been passed at the store and was part of the deposit.
The scammer attempted to get the store employee to meet them outside of the store so they could check the money. The employee saw this as a red flag and called the Police Department.
We want to let everyone know we will never ask for this type of information over the phone and will never ask you to meet outside of your business when something like this occurs. Please be aware people invent ways to take things from you everyday,” police said.
