Dover, Tenn.–A man from Tennessee Ridge and a woman from Jackson were arrested on drug charges in the parking lot of the Stewart County Jail, as they were on the way to bond a friend out of jail.

Arrested were Frank Sumner, age 48, of Tennessee Ridge, and Amber Mayfield, age 35 of Jackson.

Stewart County Sheriff Frankie Gray said, “This is the 3rd time in the past year that Deputies have arrested visitors at the jail for possession of drugs. Sometimes things just fall into your lap.”

On Tuesday March 15th, Sgt. Sam Mills, Deputy Zach Grizzard and Deputy Casey Wilburn were in the parking lot of the Stewart County Detention Center when a vehicle pulled into the lot and parked in a handicapped space.

The vehicle parked halfway in the parking space and the other half of the vehicle up on the sidewalk blocking the wheelchair access. When Sgt. Mills approached the vehicle he saw that the vehicle had no handicap sticker or handicap plate.

When the driver opened the door to exit the vehicle the Deputies smelled a very strong odor of marijuana. When the deputies spoke with the driver he was very confused and had trouble answering question appropriately. His pupils were dilated and he failed to perform any of the three field sobriety test properly. He was arrested for DUI.

A female subject was also in the vehicle and when Deputy Grizzard opened the door to speak with her, he also smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from her person as well as the inside of the vehicle. The passenger told the deputies they were there to bond out a friend and they had smoked marijuana on the way there, the passenger also stated all the drugs belonged to her.

A search of the vehicle found marijuana as well as meth and drug paraphernalia.
