Big Sandy, Tenn.–Leatherwood Inc. is back to work on the historic Mt. Zion Church located in the Old 23rd District in the Big Sandy Peninsula.

Owned by Vic Hood, this company is called in when there are historical structures that need restoration work.

With combined community donations and refuge funds, the workers from this company plan to fix all the windows of the church. The windows have been removed for this restoration work and the restored windows will be replaced in a few weeks.

The church was built sometime between 1872 and 1899, most likely in 1893, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It is the only surviving building in the “Old 23rd District” of Henry County, an extinct community since 1944.
