Paris, Tenn.–At a busy meeting of the Henry County Election Commission Monday, members certified the new precinct maps, discussed the challenge results to two candidates for the May 3 ballot, appointed machine technicians for the May election and appointed deputies to serve during the early voting period.

As we reported last week, two candidates have been disqualified from the May ballot–County Mayor Candidate Tim Wirgau and County Commission Candidate Jeff Baker.

Elections Administrator Delaina Green received the notice from State Coordinator of Elections Mark Goins last Thursday.

The Henry County Republican Party had earlier voted to challenge both candidates from appearing on the Republican ballot. The notice states that each of the state’s executive committees have gone through the application process from the candidate challenges and that the list of candidates represents the final decision of the State Republican Party Executive Committee.

–As required, the new precinct maps were approved and signed by Green and Election Commission Chair Steve Goggans.

Green said she has received the new district maps showing how Henry County now will be divided between the 76th and 74th District. As we have reported previously, Henry County now will be represented by 76th District Rep. Tandy Darby (R-Greenfield) and 74th District Rep. Jay Reedy (R-Erin).

The new district map will be published on our website.

–Early voting for the May 3, 2022 election will be from April 13-April 28. New deputies who will work during that period were appointed: Annette Copeland, Valerie Adams, Debra McGuire, Joanna Espinosa.

–The commission set the time to open polls for the May 3 election at 7 a.m.

–The commission appointed machine technicians for the May 3 election: Don Fodge, representing the Republican Party; and John Griffin, representing the Democratic Party.
