Mayfield, Ky.–The Graves County jail inmate who received an award for his heroic efforts the night of the December 10, 2021 tornado, was reunited with his family Thursday. Inmate Marco Sanchez had lost contact with his family about 20 years ago.
Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden said news reports and social media reports of the actions of Sanchez and his heroic efforts has have gone viral across the country.
Hayden said, “Late last night, I was contacted by a lady from the state of Arizona, who stated that she had seen the social media post circulating there. She inquired about the date of birth of Mr. Sanchez stating that she thinks that he could be her brother, whom their family had lost touch with some 20 years ago.
“It was determined that he was her brother. Today, arrangements were made for him to be able to reunite with his sister, and her two daughters whom he had never met. The meeting conducted via zoom with video was a heartbreaking moment for the family.”
Sanchez is scheduled to be released from custody on March 01, 2022 and county officials are assisting him in locating housing and work upon his release.
Hayden said, “We are asking for anyone with information on a reliable inexpensive vehicle that they may have for sale, to please contact the sheriff’s office at (270) 247-4501, business hours 8:00AM – 4:30PM.

For Sanchez to be able to obtain a job will need reliable transportation.

“If you would like to assist him monetarily, they can be sent to Mayfield-Graves County Tornado Relief Fund PO Box 9 Fancy Farm, Ky 42039.
