Dover, Tenn.–The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office is working to clean up the county in more than one way.
You may see Deputies and even Sheriff Frankie Gray on the side of the road going through trash to see who is responsible for it illegal dumping.
The Sheriff’s Office has charged people for littering in several incidents. Last year several incidents of the illegal dumping of tires were found in the county. In these instances truck loads of tires were dumped in different areas of the county. A couple of loads were even dumped in the Dover City Limits.
Sheriff Gray and Investigator Lee Miller worked with Captain Scott Bickford of the Dover Police Department on trying to find out who was responsible. After many hours of investigation and looking at the evidence, one suspect was identified by Investigator Lee Miller. When the suspect refused to cooperate, warrants were taken in November for Richard Nelson Brooks of Erin.
On Tuesday February 15th Erin Police Detective Rick Gordon arrested him after a vehicle pursuit. According to the Stewart County Sheriff’s press release, Brooks is now in jail in Houston County but will be taken to Stewart County to also face charges of Aggravated Criminal Littering.
Sheriff Gray said, “Illegal dumping is usually very hard to solve, we want to say Kudos to Investigator Lee Miller for his continued effort to solve this case, also a Big Shout out to Detective Rick Gordon with Erin Police who worked along with Investigator Lee Miller assisting in this investigation. Another great job Lee and thank you Detective Gordon by showing both agencies can work together as a team.”
