Paris, Tenn.–At last night’s busy meeting of the Paris Municipal Regional Planning Commission, a revised plan for a minor site plan for the planned “Oaklawn Restaurant” at the intersection of Tyson Avenue and East Wood Street was approved.

The original site plan submitted by developer Randy Crowder was approved at the November 2021 commission meeting. That plan included a new access to East Wood St. which was a right-in/right-out.

City Community Development Director Jennifer Morris told the panel that since then, TDOT had reviewed the request and based on discussions with TDOT and city staff, Crowder’s revised plan calls for both the entrance and exit on Currier Street. The proposed exit would be just past the existing driveway onto the property.

City staff also is recommending highly visible signage directing traffic how to enter and exit.

In other business:

–Planners approved a request from developer Jamie Orr to acquire city right-of-way at the dead end of Jean Street. Orr requested the right-of-way for some 1,000 square foot of property.

Morris noted based on the city municipal code, the following should be considered for approval: retain easement for utilities; retain first right of refusal if the property were to sell in the future; must offer the property to adjacent properties (there are none in this case).

The city received feedback from BPU and the Public Works Departments saying there were no objections.

As we reported in September, Orr has plans to locate his investment firm, a Holley Credit Union branch and a restaurant on the West Wood Street property. That property has already been leveled in preparation for the project.

Orr also has purchased the Wing-n-It property adjacent to the property.

–Planners approved a request from Gene McWherter to acquire an alley adjacent to his property on Whitehall Circle.
