FORT WORTH, Texas – Competing for the third time in as many days, the No. 9 ranked University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team fell by a 15-3 margin at No. 10 TCU Saturday.
The Skyhawks earned individual victories in fences, flat and horsemanship while also tying once in fences and horsemanship today.
In fences, Kelby Kane collected her team-high ninth win with an 82-point performance. Tyler Anderson’s 75 points were good enough for a draw while Haley Kane (79 points), Julia Gilman (71) and Sydney Hott (68 in her season debut in that event) completed the scoring for UT Martin.
Haley Kane came away with her second flat victory of the season, achieving 73.5 points along the way. Kelby Kane managed a team-high score of 80 points and was followed by Sophia Sundem’s 73.5 points, Anderson’s 73 points and Gilman’s 67 points.
Katelyn Schultz dialed up a career-best 74 points in horsemanship to register a head-to-head Skyhawk victory. Kate Davis tied her competitor with a 74.5-point effort while freshman Lexi Bailey accrued a career-high score of 75 points. Paige Benson and Keely Seiter rounded out UT Martin’s lineup with 72.5 and 70 points, respectively.
The Skyhawks had several close calls in reining but ran into some tough luck. Davis tallied a team-high 70 points but was edged out by 1.5 points. Brooke Bradley and Logan Putvinski each dialed up identical scores of 69 but were defeated by one and 2.5 points, respectively. Aubrey Malone (64 points in her season debut) and Shelby Jackson (58 points) also represented UT Martin in the event.
The first two of four spring home meets is up next on the docket for the Skyhawks, who host UC Davis (Feb. 11) and current No. 1 Oklahoma State (Feb. 12) on back-to-back days at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion.
