Mayfield, Ky.–A lineman from an East Tennessee crew helping to restore power to Mayfield was seriously injured in a fall Saturday.
Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden said the young man was seriously injured when he fell off a utility pole and the pole then fell on top of him. The young man “received several breaks in his leg and was finally flown to a Nashville area hospital for surgery.” Hayden said the crew is from the Knoxville area.
The photo was taken by Graves County Chief Deputy Jeremy Prince and shows the crew just moments before the young man took his fall, according to Hayden.
“These folks have a very dangerous job but many times we forget that. Again, we will never be able to thank them enough for what they are doing for us in Western Kentucky.
“On another note, the response to help him shows the true spirit of the first responders and those that are here to help. Help arrived in the form of personnel from Mayfield Fire and EMS operating in trucks and an ambulance with EMTs and Paramedics from Pleasure Ridge Park Fire and Rescue from the Louisville area. We also had a deputy in the area that was able to be on scene to help quickly,” Hayden said.
“This young man is from the Knoxville area and his family has been contacted about the injuries. Remember him, his family and his co-workers as they work through this serious injury.”
