Services Set For Deputy Who Lost His Life In Line Of Duty In Mayfield Tornado

Mayfield, Ky.–Among those whose lives were lost when the massive tornado took a direct hit on the candle factory in Mayfield was Graves County Deputy Robert Daniel.

As Jailer George Workman said, Deputy Daniel “gave his precious life while physically ensuring that his seven inmates were moved into a safe location.”

According to Workman, all of the inmates in Deputy Daniel’s care survived, but he did not.

In a Facebook post, Workman said, “He was just unable to get there himself in time. Like my savior, he too gave his life for others. This is so much for me to process.”

Deputy Daniel died in the line of duty while transporting inmates from the candle factory. He was 47.

Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield with Pastor Gregg Hussey and Rev. Antonio Sherrill officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oak Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Brown funeral Home in Mayfield.

He is survived by his Father, Robert Lee Daniel of Mayfield; 4 Daughters, Darci Hayes of Nashville, Brittany Daniel-Whittemore of Owensboro, Jenna Daniel of Paducah and Kadence Daniel of Mayfield; 3 Sons, Zachery Daniel of Mayfield, Trevonte Whittemore of Mayfield and Tyce Daniel of Paducah; Sister Ethelina Daniel of Louisville and Brother, Alonzo Daniel of Mayfield and 7 Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his Mother, Ruby Jean Saxton Slaton.

He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
